Amarr Northwoods Garage Door

Modern printed plank garage doors with triple-layer steel construction, wood-look color options, and expanded Dune, Coffee, and Onyx finishes.

Amarr Northwoods Garage Door hero image

Amarr Northwoods is a modern plank garage door for homeowners who want a wood look without ordering a true wood door. The door uses a ribbed steel section with a multi-hued, digitally printed woodgrain pattern, so it has more depth than a flat painted steel door while still keeping the lower-maintenance steel construction.

It is a good fit when the house needs a warmer modern door but a full custom wood door would be too much maintenance, too much weight, or more cost than the project calls for. We usually look at Northwoods against CHI Planks, CHI Skyline Flush, and full-view glass doors when the customer wants a cleaner modern face.

Style and color choices

  • Ribbed horizontal plank design for modern, mid-century modern, and transitional homes
  • Printed woodgrain surface that creates depth, texture, and dimension
  • Five current Northwoods colors: Cedar (CEP), Aspen Gray (AGP), Dune (DUN), Coffee (COF), and Onyx (ONY)
  • Dune, Coffee, and Onyx were added by Amarr in June 2026 and are available to order on both NW3000 and NW3138
  • Color-matched short and long panel window frames are available for the Northwoods colors; SlimLine windows use a black frame

The printed pattern can vary from the small samples, so it is worth looking at more than one image or sample before final color selection. Dune is the lightest wood tone, Coffee is the warm brown option, Aspen Gray is the cooler gray tone, Cedar is the classic reddish wood look, and Onyx is the dark charcoal direction.

Construction choices

Northwoods is only offered as an insulated triple-layer steel door: steel exterior, polystyrene insulation, and steel interior. Both versions include a bottom weather seal and are intended to be durable, quiet, and lower maintenance than a true wood product.

  • NW3000 is the heavier 2-inch option with 24/27 gauge exterior/interior steel, R-9.05, U-0.26, and lifetime workmanship/hardware warranty coverage.
  • NW3138 is the 1-3/8-inch option with 27/27 gauge exterior/interior steel, R-6.48, U-0.27, and 3-year workmanship/hardware warranty coverage.
  • Both list a 12-year paint finish warranty in the Amarr Northwoods brochure.
  • Amarr notes that the thermal performance is verified through the DASMA Thermal Performance Verification Program.

Both Northwoods models use triple-layer steel + polystyrene insulation + steel construction. Final model, WindPro needs, window placement, glass package, and color availability should be confirmed at quote time.

Windows and glass

Northwoods can be ordered closed, with standard Short Panel or Long Panel windows, with Mosaic SP or Mosaic LP layouts, or with SlimLine windows. Standard short and long panel window frames can be color coordinated. SlimLine is black-frame only.

Glass choices include Clear, Obscure, Frost, and Dark Tint. Insulated glass is available in Clear, Frost, and Dark Tint. Amarr notes that Obscure is not available for SlimLine windows, and some glass choices have an upcharge.

Quiet Door, WindPro, and code checks

Amarr lists Quiet Door as a Northwoods feature option; Amarr’s general Quiet Door language says it can reduce steel door operating noise by up to 38 percent, with results varying by model. WindPro reinforcement is also available when a door needs to meet specific wind-load requirements.

For our area, the important part is not just whether an option exists. We still need to verify the opening size, track setup, opener condition, spring sizing, local code requirement, and whether the added window/glass weight changes the best door or opener setup.

Before ordering

Before we order a Northwoods door, we would normally confirm:

  1. The construction level: NW3000 or NW3138.
  2. The finish: Cedar, Aspen Gray, Dune, Coffee, or Onyx.
  3. The window layout: Closed, Short Panel, Long Panel, Mosaic SP, Mosaic LP, or SlimLine.
  4. The glass package: Clear, Obscure, Frost, Dark Tint, or insulated glass where available.
  5. Whether WindPro, Quiet Door, or opener changes should be included in the quote.

Barton Door installation support

We help compare the Northwoods colors, confirm the right model, measure the opening, and make sure the window layout makes sense before the order is placed. After installation, our team balances the door, checks the opener setup, and reviews care for the printed finish.
