LiftMaster 98022 Wall-Mount Garage Door Opener

The LiftMaster 98022 is the current standard residential wall-mount opener, also called a residential jackshaft opener or RJO. It mounts beside the torsion shaft instead of using a ceiling rail, leaving overhead space open for storage, lighting, or a car lift.

If you are comparing a “light-duty” RJO with a heavy-duty model, the 98022 is the standard choice for doors up to 850 pounds. LiftMaster’s formal product name does not call it light-duty; its product guide describes the 12V DC motor as medium-duty.

Door fit and operating range

• Residential sectional doors with a 1-inch torsion shaft and compatible drum arrangement

The door must be properly balanced before installation. Door weight alone does not establish compatibility; shaft movement, drum geometry, track configuration, available side room, and spring condition all matter.

When to step up to the 98032

Choose the LiftMaster 98032 heavy-duty wall-mount opener when a compatible residential door falls within its 400-to-1,100-pound operating range or needs its 24V heavy-duty platform. The 98032 is not a substitute for a commercial door operator.
